Danno and I have returned from our adventures at Arco Arena in "Sweaty Sac Town" where the awesome Greenday concert took place.
Opening... Jimmy eat World...
Well actually... opening= Margaritas. And a little bit of wandering and the purches of my Concert T-shirt. THEN Jimmy Eat world.
Not a HUGe Jimmy Eat World fan... but I do dig um. And they did really well playing their top hits in order and almost no break between songs.
Meanwhile... If this crowd faild at anything... it was the ability to handel a beach ball. Seriously... like 5 of them just went to the ONE spot that equaled instent beach bull death.
Jimmy swallows the Universe finished up and there was a small brak as the stage changed.
OH... then a guy in a bunny suit came out.... threw some stuff in the crowd.... and drank lots of beer. Man.... the Easter Bunny is Fuckin hard core.
The lights go out the crowd starts cheer... and stnads up in the PACKED arena. floor was pretty full and EVERYWHERE in almost every seat was a person... just a giant crowd, which was awesome as well..... and then the band known as Greenday entered the stage.
The crowd NEVER sat down. Well, least Danny and I didn't. Nor did the creepy 21 year old girl who looked like she was 12 next to us. Or... anyone infront of us... next to us, behind us... around pretty much the entire 3 1/2 hour show the entire crowd was on there feat, headbanging (danny and I included), Moshing (danny and I NOT included {sadly}), staring at Billy Joe Armstongs Ass (Danny and I......).
Concert was AWESOME. The band REALLY knew how to work over the crowd. My apologies to all those I called up and let them listen to what I got to hear so I could mock them for not being there hehe.
Highlights:
American Idiot, Jesus of Suburbia, Holiday, St Jimmy, and We Are the Waiting unkown from the new album to kick it off.
then a little old school with Hitchin a Ride, 2,000 light years away, Brainstew (which started with each member playing the first notes 2 at a time to get the crowd to cheer... then all of a sudden they switch into the song and no one saw it coming...damn smooth) and of course Basket Case.
At one point, Billie Joe pull up three kids on stage from the crowd... one who played drums... one who played bass... and one who played guitar...
"You play drums?.....Swaer to fuckin God?!?!"
Brings the three up, gives them instraments and has them play the song. And they did Awesome! Billie Joe looked at the guitar kid and goes, "How old are you?".... "17? You ever get laid?...No?... Well, you will tonight!".... and he gave the kid the guitar while the Bass kid ran and leaped off stage head first into SOME waiting arms. Was awessome.
Then... mixed it up... all of a sudden the band stop playing an Billy Joe Armstrong (BJA) just yell... "Waaaaaaiiiiiittttttt a minuet..."
Yes.... Greenday played "Shout".... then gets to, "a little bit softer now..." and uddenly break into, "Stand by Me".... again... AWESOME.
Then in normal rock band fasion, traditional prying of fan with water. Then BJA brings up another boy and has him spry everyone with the water.
Danny's vital signs are in GREAT condition. Almost every song was accompied with an explosion.... flames.... confetti.... fireworks... and scantaly cladded 14 year olds.
things slow up and "Wake Me Up When September Ends" rings across the arena. The modern "lighters" (aka cell phones) came out in full force being waved back and fourth. From where we were sitting... it was actually really cool looking.
The band played an awesome rendition of "Minority" with some really long yet kick-ass guitar solos.
They get the encore/curtin call/GREENDAY! chants and come back out and tell everyone to keep standing... pull out their cell phones cause they had one more song they NEEDED to play...
"We Are the Campions"
Man... that song will forever be gold in the eyes of all things rock.
Fallowed by "Boulavard of Broken Drams" Again HUGE reaction
Closing with BJA center stage.... busting out "Good Ridince" and ladies and gentalman.... that's a night.
I leave you with the closing lines we were left with...
"It's something unpredictable, and in the end it's right... I hop you had the time of your life"
-Marteney (Danno behind me reading and noding in approvel)
